Joe Torre has turned down a one-year, $5 million offer to return as the manager of the New York Yankees.
I'm in shock....I need to think this through before I can comment on it but my initial reaction is good for you Joe.

He certainly looks like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders, no?
The questions remain: who will come in, and where will Joe go?
Guess it looks like Mattingly coming in? Girardi would be a better choice; with his Marlins experience, he'd be a good fit for the youth movement. Apparently, he has already declined, though?
Torre has implied that he'd like to Coach elsewhere, or at least remain involved with MLB in some capacity. He should go to a team with veterans that needs to take the next step.
Options for Torre
Baltimore: Doubt he'd go within the division.
San Francisco: Team's too old already; there's no way they can make the leap.
LA Angels: Scoscia is too beloved.
LA Dodgers: Interesting scenario. Too many former Sox on the team? If he goes to the NL, I bet it's here.
Phillies: East Coast, critical fans/market... they could sure use him.
White Sox: Have Guillen's antics worn thin? I think this would be a great fit for each of them.
St. Louis: I think him and LaRoussa are too similar; I bet the Cards want to go in a different direction.
Any other teams come to mind? Those were the ones that immediately jumped out at me.
I'm in some shock as well, but I figured Torre wasn't coming back, so I had prepped myself. It's just the way it happened that was strange. Obviously this was a one time offer and at least an offer was made, but it was half assed. It's now officially rebuilding time in NY because I'm sure this will change the team's structure besides who's leading the helm.
Hey man. I'll miss Joe.
But I can't wait to see who comes in.
you read verducci's thing on this?
