Days Until Opening Day 2009

Oh Man!

I don't want to get too excited here, but the Yankees are only 3 1/2 games behind the Sox right now (only 3 in the loss column). This is the closest that the Yankees have been to Boston since late April, and if I were Boston I certainly wouldn't be sleeping easy right now. Detroit lost too, oh man!

The Yankees looked strong last night, despite Hughes requiring 33 pitches to get out of the first. He did end up settling down and went on to win his first game at the Stadium after pitching a decent 5 2/3 innings. Actually he would have come out a bit sooner if it wasn't for the fact that the phone to the bullpen wasn't working. I'm waiting for the Yankee hating sports writers to start to questions Hughes. But let me just preempt them all by saying this....THE KID IS 21 YEARS OLD. It's natural that he is going to have some trouble settling in right now. But there is no question in my mind that he will figure it out and be the starter that we all expect him to be.

Moose faces off against his old team tonight. His performance tonight will most likely be the determining factor on if he makes a start in the first round of the post season. No doubt Torre faces a dilemma on who should be the fourth starter. Do you go with Mussina who has a ton of post season experience but still hasn't proved that he is 100% back, Hughes who still needs some fine tuning but has pitched well over his last three, or Kennedy who has been great so far but only has a few starts? Torre has said that he'll go with experience if it is close, so if Moose pitches well tonight I'll bet that he wins back Torres favor. Hughes and Kennedy will pitch in the post season, but probably from the bullpen.

I said it right here on your blog's comments section; watching the Red Sox collapse is going to be the best part of the second half. I'm STILL saying it.

And even if the do eeek out the AL East, they are going home early in the playoffs.

For all the talkin' all year long, they are out of gas about 45 days too soon.

I've learned my lesson, I will never doubt your predictions again.

If I have learned anything in the almost 7years I have lived here (SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE)...

It's that talk is all they've got.

I am praying for Moose to pitch awesome tonight.

Unfortunately I will be in class until 10pm so I will miss most of the game... stupid grad classes.

IPNY- You still remember my fave joke right??
:)

Moose makes me nervous, I'm pulling for him though. One of my buddies parents play tennis with his parents back in Pennsylvania.

Red Sox collapse?

Did you bother to take a look at the season splits before you made that statement?

Records of Contenders (+ Nats) Since the All Star Break
Yankees: 43-21
D-Backs: 37-24
Phillies: 37-25
Red Sox: 37-27
Indians: 35-26
Angels: 35-27
Mets: 35-27
Cubs: 35-29
Padres: 33-29
Nationals: 31-31
Dodgers: 30-30
Braves: 30-31
Tigers: 31-34
Cards: 30-34
Mariners: 30-34
Brewers: 28-33

Now tell me how having the fourth best record in baseball since the break constitutes a collapse.

No, I'll tell you that dropping from 14.5 to TWO AND A HALF GAMES UP...

THAT'S a collapse.

That getting swept in NY, then losing 2/3 in Fenway, then dropping the first 2-2 to Toronto (who isn't even on that list, btw)

THAT'S a collapse.

You sound like a Red Sox fan in big need of a justification. Are you going to start chanting "Yankees Suck" now?

You sound like someone who believes dinosaurs never existed, reads the NY Post and other tabloids, and is blinded by sensationalism and anecdotal evidence.

Do I even need to re-post? Look at the friggin' list! If you want to talk about a collapse, talk about the Brewers, Mariners, and Tigers.

Oh yeah, and have fun losing your opening series to the Angels (I predict 3-1).

Too bad we won't even have a chance to match up in the playoffs. Yanks must be eager to get THE GREATEST COLLAPSE IN SPORTS HISTORY off of their palette. LOL.

Yanks; One anomaly collapse.

Sox; Perfected the art and are doing it again.

Translation; The Yankees choked.

The Sox are Chokers.

And umm, how are numbers anecdotal?

Tell you what; go to back bay, get your hair done, and call me when you get a prediction right. First it was over, then it was maybe the WC, now it's the Angels will do it because we can't.

Oh, and the Angels are hurtin' pretty bad too...instead of pulling stats off ESPN, why don't you watch some baseball?

Just a thoguht there, Boston. (Sounds more like Newton, though)

I don't know Matt, I think you need to qualify that considering what happened to the Sox in 1978 and possibly again in 2007.

We'll see what happens in the postseason. My guess is that ARod bashes, Jeter flops, and Yankees lose 3/4 to the Angels, with at least one Rivera blown save.

Bruce said...

And I'm guessing that Shilling's advanced case of herpes keeps him out of the rotation.

inowpronounceyou said...

Jeter flops? Right, bc he's so consistently folded in the big moments..that's called wishful thinking, Cupcake. Here's a prediction;

Manny's vagina issues and lack of actually giving a rat's ass about the Sox keep him out until he's covered in rust. DiceK get's lit the hell up, Beckett pitches like a God, and Schilling looks great for like 5 innings. Lowell cools off to a respectable but not replacing-Manny-like-set of numbers and Papi never sees a pitch. Tek does shit, ditto JD and half the lineup. Pedroia hits singles, Ellsbury makes some very nice plays to save runs, but Lugo and Crisp hit shit. The BP, which is down to 2 guys and even they look damned hittable, gacks at least 2 and the Sox lose to Cleveland.

Meanwhile, Vlad and Matthew's aren't healthy, Colon can't pitch, and the now truly mediocre Angel's BP blows game after game in innings 5 and after. (Probably screwing Lackey out of a great start, too) Jorge, Jeter, ARod and Damon feast while Dougie M holds down first providing surprising amounts of offense. Cano and Melky play good, not great. The kids pitching, supplemented by great starts from the now revitalized Moose and Rocket, more than gets it done.

Feel that gnawing, churning feeling in your gut, Mattie? That's reality begging you to see the light.

Ha ha ha. I love it. I couldn't have said it better myself.
